The Lib Dems are fighting to block the Tory County Council's proposal for a giant waste incinerator near Stewartby. Liberal Democrats had instead proposed using latest technology for mechanical and biological processes to extract the maximum amount of usable material from the waste.

Since the County Council's proposal was approved to progress to the next stage, there has been a very worrying development. There has now been a proposal from an independent company for an incinerator 3 times the size of the original proposal. This would import waste from right across Buckinghamshire as well as Bedfordshire.

Please sign our petition below to stop both of the proposals for a giant incinerator at Rookery South, near Stewartby.

I/we call on Bedford's Councils to abandon the plans for a giant incinerator at Rookery South pit (near Stewartby) and use methods of waste treatment that maximise recycling.
